There was an article this morning entitled “For Magazines, a Bitter Pill in iPad” in the New York Times, which was discussing the subject of Apple not allowing subscription based apps in their App store. If you want to subscribe to a magazine monthly, apparently, you have to buy it each month.
Software and Content
What I don’t understand, and perhaps this is where my ignorance kicks in, is why an App has to contain the magazine. Surely, we are past separating software from content. Isn’t this something that was pioneered decades ago. Surely the Magazine App is the software shell that enables downloadable content directly from the media company. In this way, the App would be a freee download and you would need to take out a subscription for t he content.
Obvious
Am I being dense here or what … is this not obvious?
